在多間遊戲廠商傳出通知客戶取消機票和酒店的消息後， E3 的主辨單位美國娛樂軟體協會（ Entertainment Software Association, esa ）也於昨晚正式宣布取消今年的 E3 2020 ，並尋求與遊戲廠商合作，在今年 6 月將遊戲的發表會搬到網上舉行。大會將會直接聯絡參展商和參加者提供全數退款的詳情。
廠商方面，Microsoft 原本預定會在 E3 中展示 XBox Series X ， Xbox 的負責人 Phil Spencer 就在取消的消息公布後在 Twitter 上發文，表示將會舉辦一次以 Xbox 玩家為對象的網上活動，詳情會在數星期內公布。

除了 E3 取消之外，早前遊戲開發者大會 GDC 亦已宣布取消， Microsoft 已決定在本月 17 及 18 日，在 GDC 網站在旗下的串流直播平台 Mixer 舉行網上直播活動。
Facebook F8 和 Google I/O 早前都相繼宣布取消，現在大家都關注與 E3 同樣在 6 月舉行的 Apple WWDC 開發者大會會否同樣取消。
